Grimsby

A print from the Jeff Beedham Collection.

Frederick Lake Marris (1867-1942) was born on 16th October 1867. He was the son of John, engineer and millwright, and Marianne Marris of Thesiger Street, Grimsby. He married Minnie Backhouse at Basford, Nottinghamshire in 1895.

By 1901, Frederick Lake Marris was a chemist & druggist (dealer) at 19 Corporation Road, Grimsby. Their shop was still there in 1926 but Frederick and Minnie had moved next door to 17 Corporation Road by 1909. Geo. Fras. Collis M.P.S. had taken over the business by 1933. K. M. Verity M.P.S., chemist, was at 15/17 Corporation Road in the 1950s (next door to Reineckes temperance bar). J. Price, chemist, was at the same location at the start of the 1970s.

Frederick Lake Marris of 14 Wentworth Road, Grimsby died on 30th June 1942, aged 74. He is buried in Scartho Road Cemetery. Minnie died on 3rd March 1950 and is buried with Frederick.

Note: 17 Corporation Road was on the Rendel Street corner. 19 Corporation Road was next door, across Rendel Street. Unless the numbering changed at some point, as we suspect, the photo was taken before 1910.
