Tetney; a village scene in c1906.

An original, early, photographic postcard by “JAY EM JAY” SERIES GY. The publishers were Jackson & Co., Grimsby. The brand name was taken from the initials of John Middleton Jackson. This is one of their earliest postcards with this brand which, in this case, was merely stamped on the reverse in mauve ink.

The postcard was posted in Grimsby by M Pennell on 21st April 1906. The recipent was Mr G. E. Pennell, SS ‘James Tennant’, c/o G.P.B., Great Yarmouth.

We assume that G. E. Pennell was George Edward Pennell (1882-1960) who was born in North Coates on 25th September 1882. He was a farmer at Park Farm, North End, Tetney in 1939. He died on 22nd July 1960 and is buried at Tetney. George’s wife, Edith Annie, died in 1949.

Note”. The steam ship ‘James Tennant’ was built in Newcastle in 1893. Her register closed in 1934.
