The drinking fountain in Grant Thorold Park c1905.
An original, posted, photographic postcard. The photographer/publisher is not given but this has all the hallmarks of being a photographic postcard by Harry Shaw, photographer, of Grant Thorold Studio, 54 Durban Road, Grimsby.
Grant Thorold Park was officially opened to the public by Captain H. Grant-Thorold on the 30th of June 1904. ‘Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show’ was taking place just down the road at the same time. The story about members of the Wild West Show lending a hand when a marquee in Grant Thorold Park blew down is well-known, locally.
The postcard was posted in Grimsby on 24th November 1905. The recipient was Miss Carter, Ingham, Near Lincoln. The message reads, “Dear S, Hope you are keeping well. We are none very grand. All full of colds. G. back is playing him up again. E? as got a tooth. Love to all. Hoping to hear from you soon. Au Revoir”. (There were lots of Carters in the Ingham area.)
