An original, posted, photographic postcard by the prolific photographer, Stanley John Warren.

Beechfield Zoo was located on College Street, Grimsby, off Bargate. The Zoo was owned by Albert Sutcliffe and his head keeper was John Haith who later established Haith’s bird seed company. The Zoo opened in 1928 and closed in 1939.

Stanley J. Warren was an excellent photographer working in the Grimsby/Immingham area, especially in the 1920s and 1930s. His address was 225 Hainton Avenue, Grimsby earlier in the 1930s and 53 Ainslie St., Grimsby by later in the 1930s. Stanley Warren was born c1889. He came from Eastbourne, Sussex. Stanley married Elizabeth Lingard in Grimsby, during WWII, in 1944 and he died in Grimsby in 1963, aged 72.

This postcard was posted in Grimsby on 21st July 1932 by Lilly of 2 Responso Avenue, Grimsby. The recipient was Miss Elsie Gwendoline Firth, a domestic servant at “Harrowby House”, Sandon House, Grantham. “Harrowby House” was a boarding house at Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School. The message reads, “Just a line to thank you for the card. I am having a very nice time. Hoping you will like the view as I went to the zoo last night and thought it would be a change from other cards”.
