The night the future Dusty Springfield came to Cleethorpes 1959.

An original Empire Theatre poster dated 20th July 1959. The poster was sent to Ken “Mr Entertainment” Turner of Horncastle.

Mary O’Brien (1939-1999) joined The Lana Sisters in 1958. She left The Lana Sisters in 1960 and eventually went on to solo success as Dusty Springfield. (In 1960, Dusty formed the folk-pop trio, The Springfields.)

The Lana Sisters toured around England, appeared on the BBC’s Drumbeat and later took part in a Tommy Steele Christmas “Spectacular”. They appeared twice at the Royal Albert Hall and toured with Cliff Richard, Adam Faith and Morecambe & Wise.

Milton Woodward and Millicent Cooper – Milton “Jack” Woodward (1900-1964) was a professional magician who toured in variety and became famous for his “Wonder Bar” act, which he performed with Millicent Cooper.

Sonny Jenks – Dressed as dames. Was popular in pantomimes.
