Lloyd Cars Ltd., Grimsby; Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate (unused) c1940s.
An original, unused plate which would show the car, chassis and engine numbers. An interesting list of lubricants.
Lloyd Cars were based in Patrick Street, Grimsby between 1936 and 1951. Two models were made, separated by World War II i.e. the ‘350’ and then the ‘650’. After car production ceased, the company continued in general engineering until 1983. During WWII, the company made components for Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
The manager of the factory, (Frederick) Roland Lloyd (1904-1965), was the son of Fred Lloyd who owned Fred LLoyd (Motors) Ltd. of Nuns Corner, Grimsby.
Note: Just before WWII, a small number of van versions of the ‘350’ were made.
Note: CC Wakefield & Co. became Castrol in 1960.
