Queen’s Hall Cinema, Alexandra Road, Grimsby c1961.

Grimsby

A photographic print from the Jeff Beedham Collection.

Once part of a timber factory, the cinema opened in 1934. The entrance was in the middle of a row of terrace houses in Alexandra Road.

The film showing at the time this photo was taken was ‘G.I. Blues’ starring Elvis Presley and Juliet Prowse. The film was released in New York in 1960.

The cinema closed in 1963 and was converted into a bingo club. In the 1990s, the bingo club closed. The auditorium at the rear was demolished and the frontage made more in keeping with the adjacent properties. It’s still possible, though, to see where the entrance to Queen’s Hall was. The brick walls shown in the picture are still there.
