‘Tiberian’ GY.673 on the slips at Grimsby c1966.

‘Tiberian’ GY.673 was one of ten diesel trawlers built for Sir Thomas Robinson to replace an ageing fleet of coal burners. The names of all ten trawlers ended in ‘an’. ‘Tiberian’ GY.673 was the last built. She was built in 1961 by Cochrane & Sons, Selby.
In 1976, ‘Tiberian’ GY.673 arrived at Lowestoft to continue fishing as LT.273 but was converted into a standby vessel instead. In 1978 she was sold to Small & Co., who renamed her ‘Suffolk Maid’ LT.349. She only went back to fishing for a short while before being sold to Caribbean owners. She was to be converted to an international trader but this never happened and she was laid up in St. Croix, one of the Virgin Islands, for several years. Following two incidents when she went aground, the owners gave up on her and she was sunk in Butler Bay in 1986 to create an artificial reef. She is still marked on diving maps as ‘Suffolk Maid’ (80 feet down).
