The grave of Cooper Snowden (1838-1901), sawmill proprietor / manufacturing joiner / owner of a large and prosperous business.

Cooper Snowden, a farmer’s son, was born in Winteringham in 1838. He married Mary Jane Waddingham (1837-1913), a West Halton builder’s daughter, in 1862. The couple moved to Grimsby before 1871 where they had 10 children.
Cooper Snowden built up a large and prosperous business. When he died, in 1901, the family were living at 40 Heneage Street (later Road). The business was taken over by his son, also called Cooper Snowden (1872-1952) who lived at 22 Heneage Road.
Cooper Snowden & Sons Ltd. of Albion Street, Grimsby were still in business as joinery and moulding manufacturers and timber merchants in the 1970s. They specialised in making casement windows, doors and cupboards. They were contractors to H. M. Government, County Borough and Urban District Councils.
