Chapel Lane, Swallow c1905.

Northern Lincolnshire

A detail from an original, real photo postcard. The name of the photographer or publisher is not given as is often the case with very early postcards. The location is still recognisable as Chapel Lane.

Note that the little girl has a hoop, a popular toy at the time.

The postcard was posted in Caistor on 8th September 1906 by ? to, their mother, Mrs Huteson, Wadd House, Fiskerson, Lincoln.

Note: In 1911, a William Huteson was attending Swallow County Primary School. William was born in Fiskerton on 7th February 1906. He was the stepson of Sewell Taylor of Cuxwold.

Note: Mrs Huteson, the addressee, was probably Charlotte Huteson, wife of a Fiskerton blacksmith. Sewell Taylor of Swallow/Cuxwold married their daughter, Harriet Huteson, in Fiskerton in 1908. So, it’s highly likely that the sender of the card is Harriet Huteson (later Taylor). She mentions “M” and “F” in the message. She had sisters called Mary and Florrie in Fiskerton.
