This art deco style building opened as ‘Olympia’ in 1934. After being refurbished in 1947, the building reopened as the ‘Winter Gardens’. Over the following decades, many top musicians/bands, including Queen, appeared at the Winter Gardens. Many other famous personalities also appeared at the venue.

Despite public outcry, the Winter Gardens closed and was demolished in 2007.
