The Tollerton family of Grimsby and their Darracq car c1905.

The postcard was posted in Grimsby on 30th December 1905 by E. Tollerton. The recipient was Mrs Osgerby, Moortown House, Holderness Road, Hull. The message reads, “Best New Year Wishes”. Mrs Eleanor Elizabeth Osgerby (1857-1923) was the wife of George William Osgerby (1857-1906), dry soap manufacturer. George William Osgerby was born in North Kelsey, Lincolnshire and Eleanor Elizabeth Osgerby (née Houlton) was born in Scawby, Lincolnshire.
The Tollerton family were: William James Tollerton (1861-1932) sold motor cars and bicycles. His business was later known as the Tower Cycle Co. Ltd. and was located at 29 & 31 Flottergate, Grimsby. (WJT was born in Lincoln.) Eliza Tollerton (1860-1933), née Smith. The daughter of a schoolmaster living Laceby. Presumably, Eliza sent this photographic postcard. Herbert Harold Tollerton (1888-1965), born Laceby. Presumably, Herbert is in the driver’s seat of the car in the photo. Became manager of the family company. Married Evelena Mabel Bluett. Alfred Charles Tollerton (1889-1968), born Laceby. Became a cycle engineer. Married Mabel Cooke. Benjamin Martin Tollerton (1891-1967), born Laceby. Became a motor engineer. Married Gertrude M. Genders. William Percival Tollerton (1895-1953), born Laceby. Later became a motor driver for the R.A.F. Married Lizzie Eaton (and later Minnie Panton, after Lizzie died in 1936). Died in Louth.
Note: William James Tollerton was a printer before he opened his motor car and bicycle shop. Note: Herbert Harold Tollerton was a motor tester in the R.F.C/R.A.F. during WW1. Alfred Charles Tollerton was with the Army Service Corps, 693rd Motor Transport Company.
