Grimsby

An original copper plate used for printing labels for medicine bottles etc.

William Goulder Robinson was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in 1879. He was the son of Charles Robinson, customs officer (born Hull), and Selina Robinson, née Gray. William was working as a chemist’s assistant in Dudley, Worcestershire in 1901.

By 1909, William Goulder Robinson was a pharmacist at 303 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby. He had taken over this property from Robert Moore Hearne, shopkeeper and chemist/druggist. “Late Hearne” suggests that this printing plate dates to around 1910. In 1921, William’s business moved from 303 to 308 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby. His shop was still at No. 308 in 1931. He lived at 22 Dudley Street, Grimsby (Ludæ Villa) in, at least 1928-1931. By 1933, the business had moved to 302 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby. It was still there in 1937.

We don’t yet know when William Goulder Robinson died.
