The Riviera Stores, 44 Kingsway c1920 and Squire Marshall and Ethel Hall who ran the same shop c1930s.
Scans of an original real photographic postcard by Doncaster Rotophoto and an original shopfront photograph.
The postcard was posted from Cresswell to Clowne on 9th July 1920. (The publishers only produced postcards for a short time either side of c1920.)
Squire Marshall and Ethel Hall stand proudly in the doorway of the shop. The descendants of Squire Marshall would love to hear from anyone who has any information about Squire and Ethel. They can be contacted through this website.
Note: 44 Kingsway was owned by Arthur Midgley, grocer, in 1933. Were Squire Marshall and Ethel Hall managing the business for him? (Was Arthur Midgley living in the Nelson / Colne area of Lancashire where Squire Marshall came from?)
Note: ‘Woburn House’, 46 Kingsway, on the left became the Kingsway Hotel in 1926. By 1958, The Kingsway Hotel occupied 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 and 51, Kingsway.
