The earliest reference to this company we can find is the poem on the ‘Ephemera’ page of this website. The poem was written by J. J. Gittins in 1908. It suggests that the Bond Cigar Co. imported cigars and tobacco from Cuba.

From local directories: 1890 – – 1909 – Bond Cigar Co, Victoria Street, Grimsby. 1910 – Bond Cigar Co, 411 & 413 Victoria Street, Grimsby. (Cleethorpe Road end.) 1920 – Bond Cigar Co, Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby. (No longer at the address above.) 1922 – Bond Cigar Co, cigar exporters,Victoria Street, Grimsby. 1926 – Bond Cigar Co, cigar merchants, 17 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby. 1933 – Bond Cigar Co, cigar merchants, 19 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby. 1937 – –

We are unsure when the company used the name Bond Tobacco Co. Was this after 1933 and before 1937? Did the company disappear before 1937? Please let us know if you can add any further information.

Note: It is believed that Bond Cigar Co. had an office by Alexandra Dock, which is just behind Victoria Street.
