Grimsby Fish Docks

The original photographic print. ‘Cam Valiant’ has run aground by the Fish Dock lock gates. She is waiting for the next tide.

Built as the whaler ‘Thorgaut’ in 1939 by Framnæs Mekaniske Værksted, Sandefjord, Norway. Her name was later changed to ‘Berg Karl’. In 1965, she was converted to a fishing vessel and then to a standby safety vessel in c1989. Scrapped in Denmark in 2010.

‘Thorgaut’ 1939-1955 – a whaler temporarily converted to a patrol boat mobilised by the Coast Guards in San Fransisco. She was then converted back to a whaler and worked off Antarctica. ‘Berg Karl’ 1955-1965 – a whaler in Arctic waters. ‘Manon’ 1967-1987 – a fishing vessel flying the Norwegian flag. Lengthened in 1969 and again in 1971. ‘Strilltreff’ 1987-1989 – a fishing vessel flying the Norwegian flag. ‘Cam Valiant’ 1989-1994 – a standby safety vessel registered at Grimsby. ‘M. Valiant’ 1994-1997 – a standby safety vessel registered at Grimsby. ‘Guard Valiant’ 1997-2010 – a standby safety vessel again flying the Norwegian flag.
