Storm damage during the construction of Kingsway, Cleethorpes 1905.
An original photographic postcard by Bullen of Grimsby.
The same storm on 6th January 1905 destroyed the North Bay Pier in Scarborough.
This postcard, simply signed CWC?, was posted in Cleethorpes on 1st May 1905. The recipient was Miss Mozley, Station House, Cleethorpes. She must have been one of the daughters of Frederick Mozley, railway station master of Station House, Cleethorpes.
The photographer, Joseph Samuel Bullen of Grimsby, was an Irishman. Bullen worked in Grimsby and Louth from c1905 until c1937. His studios were in Freeman Street, Grimsby and later in Welholme Road, Grimsby. Bullen produced a wonderful series of photos taken on the occasion of the opening of Kingsway on 12th July 1906 by Lady Henderson. Lady Henderson was the wife of Sir Alexander Henderson, Chairman of the Great Central Railway (GCR) from 1899 until 1922.
