In 1924, Fred Parkes (1881-1962) acquired The Boston Deep Sea Fishing and Ice Company which had been founded in 1885. Fred Parkes moved the business to Fleetwood and Grimsby and this marked the end of Boston as a major fishing port. After the war Sir Fred Parke’s Boston Group grew quickly and at its height it was the largest privately owned fishing group in the UK and Europe with over 4,800 employees.
