Demolition of the Corn Exchange (detail) c1952.

Grimsby

A detail from a large, old print by an unknown photographer. The print has faded over the decades and, here, some of the contrast has been put back.

The Corn Exchange in Grimsby’s Old Market Place was demolished in 1952 and its iconic tower survived until 1960 when it was also destroyed.

Note: The Corn Exchange was opened in 1857.

Note: Bowman, 26 Old Market Place was a shop selling travel and leather goods.
