An original photograph. Not a postcard. Possibly by Shaw.

Thomas Lee’s speciality appears to be Butter Drops!

Other premises visible are: Frederick Henry Smith, butcher or Newmarch Bros., butchers. R.V. Boulton, watchmaker and jeweller. Isaac Thompson, plumber. Joseph L. Robinson, nurseryman, fruiterer and florist. Elm Cottage, later Church House.

In the distance, it may just be possible to see ‘Chantry House’, home of Otto Overbeck, the inventor of the famous “electrical rejuvenator”.

Judging by the small crowd of onlookers, some important people appear to be passing through the Bull Ring in fine, horse-drawn carriages.

The chap with a cart in the bottom left of the photo is selling ice-creams in ‘Dunmore’s Ice Boats’ and Peak Frean & Co. ice wafers. The carrier on the far left is advertising furniture made by G. Shoesmith of Grimsby (Victoria Street). To the right of that is a cart advertising Lee’s confectionary.
