Grimsby Exhibition 1936; Turog bread baking award.
An original, silver, second prize award won by R. Thorpe. The award has a Birmingham 1933 hallmark. The maker is Alexander Clark & Co. Ltd.
The Turog Brown Flour Company, was launched by Spillers at the turn of the 20th Century. Turog flour was sold to local bakeries, who baked brown bread with it and then sold and advertised the Turog brand. Up until the 1960’s Turog competed with Hovis. Turog bread baking tins, which baked the trademark on the side of the loaf, are sometimes seen for sale.
We have no information about R. Thorpe, who may well have been from outside the area.
