Market Place, Grimsby c1909.
An original, pictorial “Autochrom” postcard produced by Pictorial Stationery Co. Ltd., London. Peacock Brand (Trade Mark). Printed at the works in Saxony. No. 1337. A printed version of a colourised photograph.
A much loved view of old Grimsby. The Corn Exchange is on the right. St James’ Church (now Grimsby Minster) is in the background. The road is Bethlehem Street.
The postcard was posted by FE of 27 Agernon St., Hainton Avenue, Grimsby on 12th April 1909. (Property still exits.). The recipient was Miss Mallam, Park Villa, Eastworth, Chertsey. (The house is now called Parkville – No. 28). Miss Mallam was one of the daughters (both teachers) of Jonah Mallam, retired tailor.
The sender says, “Am having a splendid time here. The sea at Cleethorpes is as smooth as glass & perfect weather. A little more north than where I spent last Easter but quite as nice. Shall stay until my ticket expires next Friday. Don’t spring clean too much. I left home last Thursday at 10:10am. Arrived here 6:30pm. Love FE.”
