A pair of local WW2 National Fire Service helmets.

Wartime

The two helmets were found in an outbuilding in the Lincolnshire Marshes. They had remained there, untouched, since the war.

The red rings around the helmets indicate that they were used by Leading Firemen. Their service numbers are marked on the helmets. NFS Fire Force 10 is the number that denotes ‘Louth and surrounding area’ which included Grimsby and Cleethorpes. (Grimsby and Cleethorpes firemen sometimes went to Louth for training.)
