Grimsby

A detail from an original, posted, photographic postcard by The Doncaster Rotophoto Co. Ltd. (Dania Glossy Real Photograph Series). The company produced exceptionally sharp photographic postcards between 1918 and 1923 which makes dating them relatively easy.

The postcard was written in Grimsby by R. G. Rice on 24th August 1923 and posted in Grimsby the next day. (The stamp is missing.) The recipients were Mr & Mrs Albert Collas, 20 Rue Sudi Carnot, Sainte Savine, Troyes, France. The message reads, “Am staying here until Tuesday when I return to London, after that to Cannel?? (Cannes??) once more. I caught my train alright from Paris to Brussels and had a good gueuleton (“nosh-up” / “blowout”) in the bouleotting car (“restaurant car”). I hope you have arrived safely at Troye and that you are feeling quite well after your ?????? (illegible). Am sending you an English song – please accept it.”
