The Great Fire on Cleethorpes Pier by Harry Harrison 1903.
An antique print taken from ‘The Black and White Budget’, a short-lived periodical published between 1899 and 1905. The photo was taken by (Thomas) Harry/Henry Harrison, (artist and) photographer, of 70 Lovett Street, New Clee.
The original pavilion at the end of the full-length pier was destroyed by fire in 1903. A new pavilion was built halfway along the pier in 1905. This is now a fish and chips restaurant (2024).
Thomas Harry Harrison was born in Northampton in 1871 or 1872. He married Alice Carver in Nottingham in 1891. They had three children; Agnes Edna (Long Eaton / Shardlow, Derbyshire 1900 – York 1977), Henry Arthur Carver / Arthur Harry Carver (Grimsby / Cleethorpes 1906 -1957) and Hilda Kathleen (Grimsby 1910 – Essex 1963).
Thomas Harry Harrison died in Grimsby on 12th September 1928. Alice died after 1939 in Yorkshire? She was living with Agnes Edna and husband in Selby in 1939.
