Abram Elijah Woods May was born in Grimsby on 15th April 1879. He was the son of E. W. May & Hannah May (from Brightlingsea, Essex). At 21 years old, in 1901, Abram was a tailor and was living with his mother and sister at 38 Stanley Street, Grimsby. In 1911, Abram was living on his own at 1 Mangle Street, Grimsby. He was working as an Insurance Agent & Collector.
Abram married Mary Ann Dixon in Grimsby in 1911. They had a four children; William (1912-2000?), Gladys M. (1914), Elsie (1916), and Ronald (1919). They were living at 37 Garibaldi Street, Grimsby. Abram was a Docks Transport Worker for the Great Central Railway Co. In 1939, Abram was a Registered Docks Transport Worker.
After his wife Mary died in 1955, Abram married Florence Annie Burkinshaw in Grimsby in 1958. Abram Elijah Woods May died in 1965 and is buried at St Michael’s Little Coates.. Florence Annie died in 1971.
Abram Elijah Woods May was a cricket umpire at Grimsby for nearly 50 years!
