Men and pleasure boats at the Cleethorpes Pier slipway, before 1903

A group of men with several small boats at the slipway near Cleethorpes Pier, probably around 1900. The boats are thought to have been used for pleasure trips, and one of them, Violet, can be identified by her name and distinctive two-masted sailing rig. In the background, Cleethorpes Pier extends into the Humber Estuary, with the pier's Concert Hall visible between two of the men. The Concert Hall was destroyed by fire in 1903. The view is across the Humber, away from Cleethorpes.

This original amateur photograph survives on one of the few remaining pages of a now-disintegrating album of Cleethorpes photographs. It is preserved in the Grimsby & Cleethorpes Museum Collection.
