Bull Ring, Grimsby, 1971 — demolition of Cromwell Florist etc.

This original, colour photograph records the demolition of the old Bull Ring in Grimsby in 1971. Church House has just been demolished, and the cleared site behind it can be seen through the gap, with demolition machinery and rubble occupying the space. The Bull Ring had been a much-loved part of the town.

Cromwell Florist is all but gone, its frontage reduced to the surviving shop sign and frame. Beside it, F. H. Smith & Sons, butchers, is next to go: the windows have already been removed. Between the two shops was S. G. Bradshaw, jeweller, although there is no obvious sign of the business visible in the photograph.

Just beyond the right-hand edge was Evingtons, the famous toy and drapery shop. The photograph captures the old Bull Ring at a moment when familiar buildings and businesses were being cleared as the area was redeveloped.
