Phoenix Street, Grimsby, 1971
Photograph by E. H. Trevitt
This photograph looks along Phoenix Street towards the cooling towers of the Moss Road Power Station, which dominated this part of Grimsby's skyline for many years. Terraced houses line both sides of the street, while parked cars and an Electricity Board van reflect everyday life in the area during the early 1970s.
Although the power station had closed by the late 1960s, its cooling towers were still standing when this photograph was taken. They remained a familiar local landmark until they were demolished later in the 1970s.
Taken by E. H. Trevitt in 1971, this photograph records a residential street and industrial skyline that have since disappeared, preserving an important glimpse of Grimsby during a period of significant change.
