Martin Aviation Co., Cleethorpes; aerial joy rides c1921.
An original, unused, real photographic postcard by J. W. Hardy, photographer, Cleethorpes.
Bernard Martin, from Nottingham, was a Great War pilot in the Royal Flying Corps. He set up his joy ride flights business from the beach at Cleethorpes in 1920. G-EAWT was one of his Airco DH.6 aircraft. Bernard flew several aircraft at Cleethorpes during the 1920, 1921, 1922 and possibly 1923 seasons. He had a number of scrapes and he lost a couple of aircraft but Bernard and his passengers were uninjured.
Bernard Martin moved to Canada in 1929 and he continued flying. His luck ran out in 1933 when his aircraft crashed and burst into flames.
