Royal National Mission To Deep Sea Fishermen – Young Trawlers Union badge c1950s?

A Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen (RNMDSF) Young Trawlers Union (YTU) badge. A scarce original from the first half of the 20th century in the form a double sided white metal fish fob with a blue enamel ribbon scroll inscribed ‘Young Trawlers Union’. The other side has the initials ‘RNMDSF and the word ‘IXEUS’. The fish is removable from a hook attached to a blue silk ribbon with ornate suspension bar inscribed ‘Y.T.U’. IXEUS is the Greek word for fish, “ΙΧΘΥΣ” (Ichthus), which is a Christian symbol.

‘The National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen’ was founded by Ebenezer Joseph Mather in 1881. It became the ‘Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen’ in 1896.
