Vesta cases are small portable boxes made to contain matches and keep them dry. (In the United States, vesta cases are known as match safes.)
The Great Grimsby Coal, Salt and Tanning Company formed in 1873 as a co-operative of fishing vessel owners. The company provided a wide variety of products and services for fishing and other vessels. The date of this particular vesta case is unknown but it most probably dates to the early part of the 20th century. Exhibited here with the kind permission of Martin Parker.
