Grimsby

A set of late Victorian, thin brass stencil sheets. One is for stencilling the address of H. Hewins, architect, of Freeman Street Grimsby.

Henry Hewins was born in North Thoresby in 1856. He married Sarah Ann Burgess of Grimsby in 1878 and he died in Grimsby, aged 76, in 1932. The 1881 census shows Henry and Sarah Ann living at 209 Freeman Street. He was a bricklayer at the time. He obviously became an architect in later years. A Henry Hewins, of 24 St Mary’s Gate, was joint managing director of Grimsby Property Co. Ltd. Is this the same Henry?
