Greetings from Grimsby; Fish Dock Road c1909. An early “Jay Em Jay” Gy. Series postcard.

Grimsby Fish Docks

An early “Jay Em Jay” Gy. Series postcard published by Jackson & Son of Grimsby. “Jay Em Jay” was John Middleton Jackson.

The buildings on the left are the Cosalt buildings. Cosalt standing for ‘The Great Grimsby Coal, Salt and Tanning Company’. The go-ahead to demolish these buildings was given in 2016. James Hughes, conservation adviser at the Victorian Society, called the move “misguided, wrong and hugely damaging”. He added: “The very integrity of the historic docks area would be irreparably and permanently diminished and our appreciation of their development and of the history and identity of Grimsby will be forever reduced.” North East Lincolnshire Council approved the demolition by six votes to four.
