1866 Lord Carrington letter cover, sent from Grimsby to London.

Grimsby

The cover from a letter sent from Grimsby on Christmas Day 1866 to The Rt. Hon. Lord Carrington in Whitehall, London. The letter reached London on Boxing Day 1866. It was redirected to Gayhurst House, Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire and arrived there next day. A very efficient postal service!

Robert John Carrington, 2nd Baron Carrington (1796-1868), Member of The House of Lords, lived at Gayhurst House. Lord Carrington had family connections with Lincolnshire and he was lord of the manor at Humberston, near Grimsby where he owned most of the parish.
