The school began in 1933 as Wintringham Secondary School on Eleanor Street. The current school buildings in Weelsby Avenue, Grimsby, were opened in 1953 as Wintringham Grammar School.

The motto, “res non verba” means “actions speak louder than words” or “deeds not words’.
