Herbert Forman was born in Cleethorpes on 4th January 1887. He was the son of William, a labourer from Barnoldby-le-Beck, and Jane Forman of Humber Street. Herbert married Nellie Isitt in Grimsby in 1912. He was already a newsagent by 1911. The couple were living at 32 Nicholson Road, Cleethorpes in 1921 and 1939. They had a son, Roy, born in 1914, who was later a newsagent. Herbert was a special constable during WW2.
Herbert died on 31st December 1956 and is buried in Mill Road Cemetery. Nellie died in 1978. Roy died in 1989.
The postcard was posted, by Lucy(?), in Cleethorpes on 3rd July 1917. The recipient was Miss M. Hodges, Mount Pleasant, Little Cowarne, Pencombe, Near Worcester. The message reads, “Dear M, Just a PC to let you know that I arrived here quite safe on Fri. about 4.00 so was earlier than expected. Harold is looking very well, & is hoping to be able to bring me back again as they are going to have a few days leave. It is grand here, & good weather so far; it is quite a change to see plenty of people. Hope you found your mother well. H. wishes to be remembered to you. Love from Lucy.”
