These fine Edwardian houses were almost new when the photo was taken. The avenue of trees around People’s Park, which opened in 1883, look very young.

This view is still perfectly recognisable today. The right turn at the road junction in the foreground leads to Weelsby Road and Park Avenue beyond. The two turrets in the centre of the picture belong to the houses and not a church behind.
