The Sands, Cleethorpe c1875.

Cleethorpes

From The Royal Cabinet Album of Grimsby published by Albert Gait, Grimsby c1875. Some of the engravings in the book, all by Rock & Co. of London, are dated with 1860s dates. The latest is 1874. Albert Gait dates back to 1860.

This engraving shows the cliffs at Cleethorpes before the promenade was built in c1885. Note that it’s Cleethorpe in the singular. Is this an error or was it correct at the time?
