Grimsby Women’s Unionist League membership badge c1910.

Lady Doughty, the Australian wife of Sir George Doughty, was elected president of the League in 1910 with Lady Yarborough, Lady Heneage and Mrs Jack Sutcliffe vice-presidents. The brooch badge designed by Lady Doughty was adopted as the badge of the League.

This badge was made or supplied by George Hewitt & Son of Grimsby. This Jewellery business was established in 1871 and the shop in Victoria Street still exists today.
