I remember Rolfe Kirby well walking his Great Dane dog down the lanes of Brigsley. Always seemed a very pleasant old gentleman.
Fairbank Kirby Ltd; Peppermint Spirit bottle c1950s (or before).
Spirit. Menth. Pip. B.P. is peppermint spirit.
A very well known company in Grimsby at one time. Fairbank Kirby Ltd. were wholesale manufacturing chemists. They had a Ropery Street address as well as the Cleethorpe Road one shown here. They won 15 medals for their products.
We assume that the company was started by Fairbank Kirby (1873-1962) and run later, perhaps, by Rolfe Fairbank Kirby B.Sc. Chemistry (born in Grimsby in 1912 and married in Grimsby in 1939)?
In 1909, Fairbank Kirby was a chemist and druggist at 126 Oxford Street, Grimsby. By WW2, he was a manufacturing chemist with works in Grant Thorold Street and premises at 385 Cleethorpe Road.
Fairbank Kirby were acquired by Weston Pharmaceuticals in 1972. Did they later become UniChem?
