Corporation Bridge c1920 by Doncaster Rotophoto (detail).
A detail from an original, posted, real photographic postcard by Doncaster Rotophoto. The photo shows the old Corporation Bridge which was replaced in 1925. The new Corporation Bridge was opened by HRH the Prince of Wales on 19th July 1925.
The Doncaster Rotophoto Co., Ltd. produced really sharp photographic postcards from 1918 until 1923.
The postcard was posted in Grimsby by Charlie on 31st March 1921. The recipient was Miss Sis Clark, 137 Cromwell Road, Rushden, Northants. James Knight, boot and shoe finisher of Knight & Lawrence, lived at this address at the time. (The property still exists today and the exterior appears largely unchanged.) The message reads, “Dear Sis, just a card to let you know I arrived safe. The children are getting on fine at Cleethorpes. I remain your friend Charlie XXX.”
