The Channel Fleet’s visit to Grimsby 1907; H.M.S. Gipsy.
H.M.S. Gipsy was a C-class destroyer. She was built in 1897 by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Limited (Fairfields) on the Clyde in Glasgow.
In the summer of 1907 H.M.S. Gipsy visited Grimsby, She can be seen here passing the base of the Dock Tower. A series of entertainments were laid on for the crew.
Gipsy served on patrol in the First World War operating out of Dover. She was sold for breaking in 1921 but survived as a pontoon at Dartmouth, and still existed as late as 1972.
