Box for marrowfat peas; W. E. Topliss & Son, Waltham c1940s.
One of a small set of vintage dried legume boxes. Others are examples of wartime packaging, hence the suggested date of the 1940s.
William Edward Topliss (1863-1933), draper, milliner, dress maker, grocer, provision merchant, boot and shoe warehouse and clothier of Ludgate Hill in Waltham. He also had warehouses in London and Manchester and a shop in Laceby.
At a later date, Mr. Topliss had another shop in Waltham near the junction of Barnoldby Road and Brigsley road.
This box was produced by Robinsons’ (Bristol) Design Ents., Stationers Hall.
With thanks to Richard Fletcher.
