‘Saxon Forward’ GY.688 alongside ‘Ephesian’ GY.604; No. 2 Dock ice quay 1971.
From a negative.
Built in 1962 by J. S. Doig, Grimsby for A. Bannister. (Reportedly the last trawler built by Doig’s.) Later, she spent a brief spell in Fleetwood and then sailed for East Africa to fish for a company called India(n) Ocean Fisheries. It is believed that she was then taken over by a Cyprus-based company. In 1980, she disappeared with 13 crew whilst sailing through monsoon conditions between Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania to Bombay. In 1993, she was found and photographed in a rusty condition under palm trees in Cochin, South India. She had survived!
