Note the old spelling of Scartho, with an ‘e’.
‘Scarthoe’ was last seen as a houseboat at Goole. She was painted green.

“A very interesting read: 'Roots in the Soil: An Adventure in Agriculture' (1987) is actually a biography detailing the life and work of the prominent British agriculturist Sir Joseph Nickerson, written by the well-known agricultural journalist and author Ralph Whitlock.”

There is no hostorical basis for Scartho with an ‘e’ beyond a petoition in the 1920s from village residents asking for the spelling to be changed. Post Office denied request on the absence of any historical foundation for the change. May be a case of attempted gentrification by socially mobile folk making move from Grimsby to new properties in rural Scartho.
