The Coronation of George V in 1911; a ‘Coronation Festivities’ badge with the Borough of Grimsby Crest.
An original, padded, rosette badge embroidered with silk threads and gold bullion wire and with gold bullion tassels. The badge was probably worn by a Town Hall (civic) dignitary on the day. On the reverse, there’s a safety pin and an ink stamp with, “?ing & Son, Manufacturers, London”.
George (1865-1936) was born during the reign of of his paternal grandmother, Queen Victoria. He was the second son of Prince and Princess of Wales (later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra). The coronation of George V and his wife, Mary, took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Thursday 22nd June 1911.
