The Grotto Tea Room/Gardens, Cleethorpes c1910.
Located on Humberstone Colonnade on the sea front facing the sea. Presumably, the owner at the time was E. Winter. (See the sign over the entrance.)
In the 1920s and 1930s, the Grotto Tea Gardens (Refreshment Rooms in Cliff Gardens) were owned by Miss Jessie Isabella Farquhar.
In the 1950s, the tea rooms became the Grotto Aquarium (Promenade). The site is where the waterfall and concrete pelican is now.
Note the advertisement for ‘Goddard, ironmonger’ painted on the roof behind. This was H. Goddard, ironmonger, of 44 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby.
