Smith & Sons were furriers, silk mercers, drapers and outfitters at 9 & 11 Victoria Street West.

David Smith, complete house furnisher, high class tailer and outfitter of 13 & 15 Victoria Street West can be seen in the centre of this c1905 photo.

In 1923, Guy & Smith, drapers and complete furnishing warehousemen were at 19 & 21 Victoria Street West. Whitlam Smith Wm. & Son, furnishing ironmongers, hardware factors etc. were at 17 Victoria Street West. David Smith (Grimsby) Ltd. and Smith & Sons were still there.

By the 1950s, Guy & Smith, department store occupied all the way from 9 to 23 Victoria Street West.

In 1969, Guy & Smith Ltd were taken over by House of Fraser Ltd department store retailers, Glasgow, Scotland, and in 1970 the name of the company was changed to Binns (Grimsby) Ltd.

The department store was eventually known as House of Fraser and is now closed.
