People’s Park Gates and tram c1904.

Grimsby

A printed postcard by ‘The Artistic Series M. S. & Co. 2’. The postcard was sent by Harold to Miss Alice F. M. Blackburn, 53 Ramsgate, Louth on 16th December 1904. Harold was wondering why Alice didn’t go to Grimsby the day before.

The printed, coloured postcard has been adapted from a photograph of the junction of Park Drive, Ainslie Street and Welholme Road. A Great Grimsby Street Tramways tram travelling along Welholme Road is just passing the gates,

The wonderful park gates at the east and west junctions of Park Drive and Welholme Road were removed in 1943 to provide metal for the the war effort. In 1966 the lodge on the left of the picture was demolished.

(An Alice Frances Blackburn was born in the Horncastle area in 1877. She married in Louth in 1907.)
